Modrá Hviezda: traditional cooking right beneath the castle walls
By Peter Vrábel · 21 June 2026 · 1 min read
Modrá Hviezda (The Blue Star) sits in a historic building right below the wall of Bratislava Castle, and it's one of the places serving traditional Slovak food in a noticeably more refined setting than a typical tavern.
What to try
Classics like halušky or duck get a more elaborate presentation here while staying true in flavour to the tradition. The wine list is worth as much attention as the food.
Atmosphere
Stone vaults and a view toward the castle create an atmosphere better suited to a special dinner than a quick lunch.
Good to know
The higher price bracket matches the location and the level of service. Booking ahead is worth it, especially in summer when tourist interest peaks.
